The Moon

Aircraft in Front of the Moon: After two hours waiting an aircraft finally crossed the waxing half moon. This time with no chemtrails or better call them condensation trails. But one can see the hot exhaust. It was flight Aegan Airlines A3475 from Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG) to Rhodes (RHO). Aircraft is an Airbus A320-323, registration number SX-DGR, altitude 10058 m, ground speed 872 km/h. The aircraft has been identified using Flightradar24 app. Shot through a Williams Optics refractor with 735mm focal length, ratio f/7 and Nikon TC-20E II 2x teleconverter. Nikon D850, 1/1000 s, ISO 1400, Tuesday, June 19, 2018 19:16:09

Waxing half Moon: The waxing moon, 5 days after new moon. Unfortunaltey no aircraft crossed the moon today. Shot through a Williams Optics refractor with 735mm focal length, ratio f/7 and Nikon TC-20E II 2x teleconverter. Nikon D850, 1/500 s, ISO 6400, Monday, June 18, 2018 22:01:56

Full Moon Rising with Airplane: The full Moon is rising above the forst on thop of the neighbouring hill "Gebenstorfer Horn". Some craters are already visible on the right hand side because the full Moon was four hours ago. An airplane is flying in front of the Moon and spraying chemtrails consisting of carbon dioxide and dihydrogen monoxide. Probably I should wear a hat made of aluminum foil to protect me from CIA spy satellites that can read my thoughts. William Optics Zenitstar f=735mm f/7 + Nikon TC-20E II 2x teleconverter. Nikon D850, 1/60 s, ISO 800, Tuesday, May 29, 2018 21:24:25

Waxing Moon: And again the Moon on the same day, but without airplane, cirrus clouds and shot in the night. It is recommended to take multiple pictures and then later select the sharpest. Bad seeing caused by moving air blurs an image. William Optics Zenitstar f=735mm f/7 + Nikon TC-20E II 2x teleconverter. Nikon D850, 1/250 s, ISO 400, Friday, May 25, 2018 23:17:02

Airplane Crossing Moon: Finally it worked on the next day. A picture without cheating by stacking layers in Photoshop. Unfortunately there were some thin cirrus clouds on the sky. That's why the contrast isn't the best. One 1/250 second exposure time seems already be too long for getting an airplane without motion blur. William Optics Zenitstar f=735mm f/7 + Nikon TC-20E II 2x teleconverter. Nikon D850, 1/250 s, ISO 320, Friday, May 25, 2018 18:47:53

Three Quarter Moon: I was waiting two hours for an airplane crossing the moon. Once the earth shadow was so high that crossing airplanes would no longer be lit by the sun, I gave up. The iPhone app Flightradar24 is useful for getting prepared. Sometimes airplanes don't have a clearly visible trail. William Optics Zenitstar f=735mm f/7 + Nikon TC-20E II 2x teleconverter. Nikon D850, 1/250 s, ISO 400, Thursday, May 24, 2018 21:06:13

Half Moon with Clouds: A cloud is moving in front of the waxing half moon. William Optics Zenitstar d=105mm f=735mm f/7. Nikon D850, 1/1000 s, ISO 200, Monday, May 21, 2018 16:53:19

The Weather

Lightning: On contrary to yesterday's thunderstorm this time there were at least some lightnings hitting the ground and not just all hidden behind the clouds. This picture was captured using MIOPS Smart Trigger. If possible I recommend to shoot at least for 1/4 second and choose ISO and stop to underexpose the background by ca 1 stop. Otherwise a lightning may be spread over multiple images or hardly visible because the background is too bright. Nikon D850, 1/4 s, F/5.6, 31 mm, ISO 100, Thursday, May 31, 2018 21:06:01

Lightning: Just a small boring thunderstorm missing Brugg as usual and disappeared from my point of view through the window. This picture was captured using MIOPS Smart Trigger which fires the camera only when it detects a lightning bolt. Very useful for daytime lighting photography and saving time in post processing. Now I just need a nice lancscape and luck to be on the right place at the right time. Nikon D850, 10 s, F/5.6, 32 mm, ISO 200, Monday, May 28, 2018 02:11:44

Church in Windisch: The light of the setting sun is shining on the tower of the church in Windisch. In the background are the Swiss Alps with the Gross Schärhorn (left) and the Gross Düssi (behind the tower). Shot through a Williams Optics refractor with 735mm focal length and f/7 aperture ratio. Swan with Chicks and Highland Cows: Idyllic morning scene in the conservation area Limmatspitz in th water castle where river Limmat flows into river Aare. A swan mother is carrying its chicks well protected on the back. It didn't trust me yet. The scottish highland cows were resting over night under that tree in the background. Nikon D850, 1/500 s, F/11.0, 145 mm, ISO 800, Friday, May 25, 2018 08:46:48

Waterfall Linn: One week later. It rained a little bit, but not enough for much more water. Here's the photographic proof that my son really can stand still for one second. Nikon D850, 1 s, F/6.3, 17 mm, ISO 64, Thursday, May 17, 2018 18:13:48

Ant with Lice: Unfortunately the ants are caring carefully for the lice on my sage. They are usually milking them to get a sweet liquid. This ant is drinking from a rain drop. Nikon D850, 1/250 s, F/32.0, 210 mm, ISO 64, Wednesday, May 16, 2018 18:46:13

Fly on wine leaf: A fly is sitting on a wine leaf on my terrace. Nikon D3, 1/320 s, F/32.0, 210 mm, ISO 200, Friday, May 11, 2018 18:10:30

Fly on sage leaf: A small fly is sitting on a leaf of a sage and tasting the surface with its nozzle. Nikon D3, 1/250 s, F/20.0, 105 mm, ISO 400, Friday, May 11, 2018 11:42:14

Waterfall Linn: The upper one of the waterfalls near Linn. There was not much water. The lower one didn't have water at all. Nikon D3, 20 s, F/8.0, 17 mm, ISO 200, Thursday, May 10, 2018 17:55:57

Brugg at Sunrise: One hour later, the rising sun transforms the skyline of the city Brugg into pure gold. Maybe a shot around equinox time will produce better shadows from the trees in the foreground because the river Aare flows here from west to east. Nikon D3, 30 s, F/11.0, 48 mm, ISO 200, Monday, May 7, 2018 06:36:05

Brugg at Dawn: The old town of the small city Brugg with the river Aare. Shot taken from the Casino bridge. It was already a bit too bright for a picture in the "blue hour". Nikon D3, 30 s, F/16.0, 48 mm, ISO 200, Monday, May 7, 2018 05:32:21

Bat: Psst! A bat is sleeping and hanging upside down off the ceiling of the banana cave on Mount Brugg. The last time I was in here, there were no bats. Apple iPhone SE, 1/100 s, F/2.2, 4.2 mm, ISO 32, Saturday, April 28, 2018 16:45:38

Brugg with Aare: The old town of Brugg with the river Aare in the dawn taken. While I was standing on the Casino bridge a beaver swam underneath the bridge. It must have its lodge somewhere on the island. Nikon D3, 30 s, F/16.0, 52 mm, ISO 200, Saturday, April 28, 2018 05:57:50

Swan with Drops: One of the tree swans after putting its head under water for searching food. It is a test shot with my used bought Nikkor 300mm f/2.8 and Nikon TC-20E II teleconverter. Swan Cleaning: One of the tree swans on the river Aare near Vogelsang AG. It is a test shot with my used bought Nikkor 300mm f/2.8 and Nikon TC-20E II teleconverter. There's very little depth of focus when it is fully open. Nikon D3, 1/4000 s, F/3.2, 300 mm, ISO 200, Friday, April 27, 2018 09:28:24

Flying Seagull: A seagull is flying over river Aare near the Schachen island at Brugg. It is a test shot with my used bought Nikkor 300mm f/2.8 and Nikon TC-20E II teleconverter. The autofocus catched the wing instead of the head why it is not properly focused. Nikon D3, 1/1000 s, F/5.6, 600 mm, ISO 220, Friday, April 27, 2018 08:31:16

Milky Way above Tree: The milky way rises above the hazy sea of light pollution. The light pollution is caused by Lucerne. The tree was lit for a few seconds with the display of an iPhone. I should use slightly orange instead of pure white instead to get a warmer tone. Spring telescope meeting at Ahornalp. Nikon D850, 15 s, F/3.5, 17 mm, ISO 6400, Saturday, May 19, 2018 02:16:37

Sunset: Sun, clouds and mist create a wonderful colorful sunset on Ahornalp in Emmental. The shadow recovery of the Nikon D850 is just awesome. All the trees were just pitch black before pushing the shadows in Lightroom. Nikon D850, 1/200 s, F/7.1, 50 mm, ISO 200, Friday, May 18, 2018 21:00:40

Miscellaneous

Making of Catfish in Rhine: My dive buddy was taking a picture of me while I was shooting the catfish in river Rhine. Unfortunately the catfish didn't want to get closer and let me take more pictures of it.

Napoleon before/after: Okay, this time it is real cheating. It's the first time a Napoleon gets that close to take a good picture and then a diver is right behind the fish. The picture was made right after all have jumped into water. I used Photoshop to remove the diver's fins, arm, hose and bubbles. I also enhanced colours and contrast a bit to get the pretty patterns on the fish and removed some white scars.

Aare River

Caddisfly Larva: The larva of a Caddisfly (lat. Trichoptera) is living under water and builds a tube from various little pieces that it finds. It uses it for hiding and protection. Unfortunately there was nothing more interesting on this dive site at river Aare near the open air swimming pool at Brugg. The maximum depth there is about four meters. Dive #645: Swimming bath Brugg, Aare. Nikon D200, 1/250 s, F/18.0, 105 mm, ISO 400, Friday, May 4, 2018 09:40:56

Lake Zug

Crayfish: Shooting crayfish with a fisheye lense is pretty tricky. One has to put the dome port very close to the crayfish and shoot blindly. In most of the shots the crayfish wasn't sharp though. Dive #644: Baumgärtli, Lake Zug. Nikon D200, 1/160 s, F/5.0, 10.5 mm, ISO 100, Sunday, April 15, 2018 11:07:29

Crayfish: A crayfish is sitting on a stone. Okay the Nikkor AF 20mm 1:2.8 D wide angle lens is not really suitable for macro photography, but at least it is better than my Nikkor AF-S 12-24, which has very soft edges in the dome port. Dive #642: Easter fundive with DiveZone at dive site Baumgärtli, Lake Zug. Nikon D200, 1/60 s, F/7.1, 20 mm, ISO 800, Sunday, April 1, 2018 09:50:47
